Stories the Buddha Told

Throughout his life and when it was appropriate, the Buddha told amusing and clever stories to illustrate his teachings. He did not sum up each story with a 'moral', the stories themselves did that. The Buddha used these stories to reveal to the world the values he held most dear - honesty, kindness, courage, generosity and worldly wisdom.  Stories the Buddha Told, the third volume in Great Buddhist Stories will charm and challenge the reader of today with the wit and wisdom of the man who told them.

Enjoy, in vivid, full-colour illustrations, the story of :

  • The student who could not steal and who took the best prize as a result.
  • King Brahmadatta, the kind and fair king whose 'mark of greatness'  won him the praise of other kings.
  • The greedy and selfish ascetic whose dubious dealings were put in evidence by a 'piece of straw'.
  • Mahosadha, the world-wise youth, whose clever tests could not be solved by 'wise men'.
  • The courageous and 'persevering quail'  who tried to stop a forest fire on her own strength.
  • And many more.
Suitable for children between 5 to 12 years old.
